The brand

Practical odor control for homes with pets

Pet's Favorite makes odor-eliminating candles and sprays for pet owners. It's a practical, value-focused product, not a luxury one.

The pitch is simple:

Pets create odors, and the brand helps get rid of them.

The challenge

Two related brands, overlapping products

Pet's Favorite sat next to a related home fragrance brand in the same portfolio. The product ranges overlapped enough to raise a fair question: were the two brands competing for the same shoppers?

When you manage related brands, each one needs a clear role. Our goal was to build Pet's Favorite's own sales base.

The work

Advertising built for this brand alone

We ran advertising to grow Pet's Favorite as a business in its own right, rather than as a branch of the wider portfolio.

Matched comparison windows

To judge the results, we compared two equal 84-day periods, so the time windows matched.

TACOS alongside sales

We tracked total advertising cost of sales (TACOS) alongside sales. TACOS is the share of your total sales that goes to ads. At 10%, you spend $10 on ads for every $100 you sell.

The results

More purchases, clicks, and sales

Ad purchases+46.93%1,530 → 2,248
Clicks+44.11%7,320 → 10,549
Ad sales+41.85%$31,079.78 → $44,088.18
Total account sales+14.22%$91,182.90 → $104,151.58

Ad purchases are the orders that came from ads. They are separate from total account orders.

The tradeoff
7.43% → 10.63%TACOS, up 3.20 percentage points

Pet's Favorite sold more, and ads took a bigger share of total sales to get there. Bringing that share back down is the next goal.

What this doesn't show: These results don't tell us how much of the new demand was truly new to the wider portfolio, or whether the overlap between the two brands is fully resolved.

The takeaway

If you run related brands on Amazon, give each one a clear growth focus, and measure each one on its own numbers.
